21 March is South
African Human Rights Day. It is a day which, more than many others, captures
the essence of the struggle of the South African people and the soul of our
non-racial democracy.”
Nelson
Mandela
Human Rights Day is
commemorated by a public holiday in South Africa, reminding us of the
Sharpeville Massacre. A day in which we honour those whose lives were
sacrificed in the fight for democracy and to
reflect on the progress that has been made in ensuring basic human rights for
all South Africans, as preserved in our Constitution.
Let’s remember this day as part of our heritage and
treat every person with respect and humility. “How would you like to be treated daily?”
